August 5, 2021. Unbelievable. Where did the month of July go? Where did summer go?
While it’s hard to believe school is beginning and our fall routines are underway, it’s true. Covid is still with us and not only with us but making a harsh statement as case numbers rise due to the Delta variant. Mask mandates return along with social distancing. We must trust the Great Physician. He alone is able to meet our needs during these Covid outbreaks.
Just what does “able” mean? The Greek word for able is dúnamai; meaning, “to have power.” In our passage from Luke, “able” is referring to inherent strength or what may be allowed or permitted. While Jewish leaders thought most Jews would be saved, Jesus is warning here that most people will not. This narrow door is also mentioned in Matthew 7:13-14.
As we begin our fall routines, may our inner strength come from Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday, today and forever, (Hebrews 13:8); not from man but from the one who lived on earth as a man, and left His spirit with us to be our companion as we walk the narrow road.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. -(Ephesians 3:20)
